W CROSSLEY & SON,was established 75 years ago

By a Mr Willie Crossley

Willie was the son of a quarryman,who followed his fathers trade and went to work in a quarry at Midgley

There he learned every aspect of getting the stone out of the ground , dressing huge blocks,cutting the blocks up with wedges ,dressing wallstones, and working cills, heads and corner stones, etc.

In the year 1924 Mr Crossley bought a small business off a Mr Billie Bairstow [ a monumental mason who had got into financial trouble].This was the start of W Crossley & son

Harold Crossley the son of willie left school at 14 and went to work with his father, In 1937 Wille handed the business over to Harold.

Upon the retirement of Harold Crossley in 1977 , Mr Andrew Barraclough, an apprenticed trained stone mason employed by W Crossley & son. bought the company. Andrew still runs the company today.
